Char Dham Yatra is a sacred pilgrimage in Hinduism that involves visiting four revered shrines located in the Himalayan region of Uttarakhand, India. The four sites included in the Char Dham Yatra are Yamunotri, Gangotri, Kedarnath, and Badrinath. These sites hold great religious significance and are believed to be the abodes of various Hindu deities.

Yamunotri: Yamunotri is the source of the Yamuna River and is dedicated to Goddess Yamuna. The main attraction is the Yamunotri Temple, where pilgrims take a holy dip in the Yamuna River and offer prayers.

Gangotri: Gangotri is the origin of the holy Ganges River and is dedicated to Goddess Ganga. The Gangotri Temple is the main pilgrimage site, where devotees offer prayers and take a dip in the river.

Kedarnath: Kedarnath is dedicated to Lord Shiva and is located at an elevation of around 3,583 meters. The Kedarnath Temple is one of the 12 Jyotirlingas (divine representations of Lord Shiva) and is a significant site for Hindu pilgrims.

Badrinath: Badrinath is dedicated to Lord Vishnu and is located in the Chamoli district of Uttarakhand. The Badrinath Temple is the main attraction, and it is believed to be one of the holiest shrines in Hinduism.

The Char Dham Yatra typically begins from Haridwar or Rishikesh and follows a well-defined route. The pilgrimage season usually starts in April or May and continues until October or November, depending on weather conditions. Many devotees undertake the yatra by foot, while others prefer to hire vehicles or use helicopter services for a more comfortable journey.

The Char Dham Yatra is not just a physical journey but also a spiritual one, as pilgrims seek blessings and spiritual purification. It is believed that completing the yatra brings immense spiritual merit and helps in attaining moksha (liberation). The yatra is considered to be a significant event in the life of a devout Hindu, and it attracts millions of pilgrims from all over India and around the world.

It's important to note that due to the remote and high-altitude locations of the Char Dham shrines, proper preparations, physical fitness, and caution are necessary for a safe and successful yatra. It is advisable to consult with local authorities, travel agencies, or experienced guides for a well-planned and organized pilgrimage.
